In the first part of the piece, the artist uses an axe to split an oak cube, revealing its internal structure as if in a moment of surprise. The act of splitting the wood exposes its raw, unaltered nature. By covering the freshly exposed surfaces with a delicate sheet, the artist captures this raw expression, preserving the immediate and unfiltered moment of transformation.
The Second: "BIG" and the Third: "BANG"
In the second part of the work, the oak cube is split again, but this time into two parts, symbolizing the energy released through the tearing of the material. The force and speed with which the cube is broken reveal a deeper, more powerful essence of the wood. As the artist continues, the cube is torn further apart: first into two pieces ("BIG") and then into five ("BANG"), evoking the explosive energy that is unleashed.
In response to this violent tearing, the artist gently covers the exposed surfaces with a thin, golden veil, adding a delicate touch to the raw energy of the breaking wood. This golden layer symbolizes both the fragility and beauty that emerges from destruction, capturing the tension between force and grace.
